2016 JCS Judges Conference

Judges Reports

The 2016 JCS Judges Conference took place in Devon on Tuesday 5th April .

36 Judges placed four classes of animals; Heifers in milk, Junior cows, Senior Cows and Maiden Heifers. Judges were asked to give reasons over the microphone for one of the four classes with Alan Timbrell and Ashley Fleming master judging the reason giving.

The final placings for each class were derived from a consensus of five anonymous judges with all the judges taking a short time after each class to discuss the placings with some welcome debate and constructive points raised.

The cattle on display were presented immaculately and of a consistently high standard, a credit to the Rivermead herd.

Following the first two classes there was a break for lunch with an opportunity for delegates to socialise whilst enjoying an exceptional meal. In the afternoon the final two classes were judged.

A Championship class was presented to finish the day with some constructive and helpful advice provided by Ashley Fleming on ring etiquette for Judges.

Thanks go to Lynden Bustard (Holstein UK Classifier) for his assistance in the ring and for the advice offered throughout the course of the day and likewise to the other guest judges who participated in the day from the different breed societies. The contribution and feedback from all who attended resulted in the day’s success with many positive points raised. Huge thanks must go to Mark Davis, his family and the handlers of the cattle on the day- their hard work both in the lead up to the event and on the day is greatly appreciated by all who travelled to Devon.
